About Sorrento\" alt=\"Ingresso Villa Fiorentino - About Sorrento\" loading=\"lazy\" \/>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<figcaption class=\"widget-image-caption wp-caption-text\">The entrance to Villa Fiorentino  <\/figcaption>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/figure>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-453c76b elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"453c76b\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Villa Fiorentino: The Origins  <\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-fe401cd elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"fe401cd\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><strong>The beautiful Villa Fiorentino was built in the 1930s<\/strong> <b>as the home of the Fiorentino-Cuomo family<\/b>, historic weavers of handkerchiefs with the finest and most sought-after embroidery.<\/p>\n<p>In order to bring prestige to their craftsmanship, the Fiorentino-Cuomo family thought of using <b>the rooms on the ground floor of the villa precisely as a display venue for their work<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p><b>Mr. Fiorentino&#8217;s former workshop, in fact, was based on Luigi De Maio Street in the historic center.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>As soon as one enters the courtyard, one is immediately fascinated by the building&#8217;s particular aesthetic, which is atypical in Italy and<b> reminiscent of American mansions of the late 19th century<\/b>: it was precisely the U.S. architectural magazines that inspired Mr. and Mrs. Antonino and Lucia Fiorentino on the style to adopt for their home.<\/p>\n<p>The Villa, in fact, is <b>in the Neoclassical style<\/b> with neo-colonial influences, <b>typical of 19th-century southern American architecture<\/b>.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-0552317 elementor-widget elementor-widget-image\" data-id=\"0552317\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"image.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<figure class=\"wp-caption\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/aboutsorrento.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/elementor\/thumbs\/Agrumeto-a-Villa-Fiorentino-About-Sorrento--popvwotwgi762o9s1rcuzctdtas6xtdi3x9a7sf134.jpg\" title=\"Agrumeto a Villa Fiorentino &#8211; About Sorrento\" alt=\"Agrumeto a Villa Fiorentino - About Sorrento\" loading=\"lazy\" \/>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<figcaption class=\"widget-image-caption wp-caption-text\">The citrus grove at Villa Fiorentino<\/figcaption>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/figure>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-cef4405 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"cef4405\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Villa Fiorentino: The Farmhouse<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-a1d73a3 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"a1d73a3\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><em>&#8220;Villa Fazzoletti&#8221;<\/em> (so named by the Sorrentini in memory of Mr. and Mrs. Fiorentino and their business) occupies an <strong>area of about ten thousand square meters, surrounded by a huge garden of citrus trees, camellias and roses<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Behind the building, in the overlying part of the fund that houses the citrus grove,<strong> we find a pre-existing farm building<\/strong> incorporated into the city walls themselves.<\/p>\n<p>The Farmhouse was used as the residence of the Villa janitor and occupied until the early 2000s.  <\/p>\n<p>From some cadastral documents of the late 19th century, in fact, we learn of the existence of the farmhouse.<\/p>\n<p>Not only that,<strong> in the early 1920s, the building had only the ground floor with the related &#8220;typical&#8221; rooms of a peasant house: <\/strong>the millstone, the oven, the cooper, the stables for the animals, and the rooms for the family.<\/p>\n<p>When the building of the Villa was finished, <strong>the farmhouse saw its expansion with the construction of the upper floor and the attic<\/strong>, so as to make living conditions easier for the occupants.<\/p>\n<p>One <strong>curiosity<\/strong> is the presence of frescoes all along the walls of the house and which remain of unknown origin and subject matter.<\/p>\n<p>However, it is plausible that Mr. and Mrs. Fiorentino, lovers of beauty and sensitive to Art, had somehow &#8220;instructed&#8221; Gianluigi Aponte<\/strong>  &#8211; who brought prestige to the City for its international reputation in the maritime field &#8211; and as  <strong>Director the Adv. Gaetano Milano.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Both of them, moved by a spirit of unconditional love for their city and embodying the ideals of Mr. and Mrs. Fiorentino,  <strong>Promote with the invaluable help of Foundation members everything related to local cultural and artistic heritage<\/strong>, organizing art exhibitions and encouraging activities and events open to the citizens of Sorrento and the many tourists who visit the Sorrento Peninsula.<\/p>\n<p>Most importantly.  <b>to the tourism of excellence that the Sorrento Foundation directs its activities to promote the area, with the aim of introducing as many people as possible to the cultural, historical and traditional richness of Sorrento<\/b>  that is not limited to &#8220;commonplaces&#8221;
