It is a Mediterranean paradise<\/strong> known for its lemon groves<\/strong>, marinas<\/strong>, beaches<\/strong>, historic town center<\/strong>, and shopping<\/strong>. <\/span><\/p>

Sorrento is the perfect place to stay<\/strong>, not only for its features but also because it is accessible to other Southern Italian destinations<\/strong>. <\/span><\/p>

It is the third largest city in Italy<\/strong> and has deep historical roots dating to before the Greco-Roman age<\/strong>. <\/span><\/p>

Naples is known for<\/strong> their famous foods that originated here like pizza<\/strong>! <\/span><\/p>

Other attractions are the Galleria Umberto<\/strong>, The Spanish Quarter<\/strong>, and the waterfront. <\/span><\/p>

One of the top destinations in the Bay of Naples is Capri<\/strong><\/a>, which is an island 30 minutes away from Sorrento by ferry<\/strong> out of Marina Piccola. <\/span><\/p>

Upon arrival, there are beaches, boat rides, and shops in the lower Capri Town. <\/span><\/p>

This is where you can take a boat ride around the island or go into the Blue Grotto cave. <\/span><\/p>

There is an option to take a bus or walk up to Anacapri<\/strong> which is located on the other side of the island and has higher-end shopping and restaurants with beautiful views. <\/span><\/p>

Another one of the Islands in the bay is Ischia<\/strong>. <\/span><\/p>

It is a larger island that is closer to Naples and is an hour ferry ride from Sorrento<\/strong>. <\/span><\/p>

Ischia is well known for its beaches and thermal baths<\/strong>, so it is a perfect destination for a relaxing afternoon<\/strong>. <\/span><\/p>

In comparison to Capri, Ischia is more of a local island so can be a great place to avoid crowds during tourist season while also getting a more authentic experience.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Positano<\/a> is a town on the Amalfi Coast famous for its colorful and steep hillside<\/strong> that contrasts against the blue sea below and is one of the most popular destinations in Southern Italy. <\/span><\/p>

Positano is built on a hill and can be accessed from Sorrento by bus or by ferry<\/strong>. <\/span><\/p>

The bus takes around 45 minutes<\/strong> through the windy mountains and cliffsides and it drops you off at the top of the hill where the main street<\/strong> and shops will lead down to the bottom<\/strong>. <\/span><\/p>

After taking the bus, the ferry is nice to take on the way back<\/strong> so you don\u2019t have to climb back up the hillside and it is only a 30 minute ride<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Amalfi is another beautiful town<\/strong> situated on the opposite side of the peninsula from Sorrento.<\/span><\/p>

It is an hour ferry ride and an hour and a half bus ride to get there<\/strong>, but it is very worth it<\/strong>, especially if you\u2019re looking for a nice beach day. <\/span><\/p>

Each town on the coast has many of the same features, but with their own heart and character so it is a great experience to explore each one.<\/span><\/p>

Many of the towns listed are able to be done in one day like taking a ferry to Positano first and then Amalfi afterwards. <\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

The ferry system is a great way to get around the Bay of Naples and the Amalfi Coast<\/strong>! <\/span><\/p>

For more local places to Sorrento, the Circumvesuviana train line<\/strong> has 35 train stops on the way to Naples<\/strong> and offers<\/strong> many smaller and more local towns to explore<\/strong> as well! <\/span><\/p>
