This was a key factor in Sorrento and Naples\u2019 history as they protected the sought-after port from multiple military invasions.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

The History of Sorrento\u2019s Ancient Walls\n<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

They were built in the 4th century B.C. by the Greeks<\/strong>, who inhabited the land in pre-Roman times. <\/span><\/p>

They proved effective, stopping the Samite invasion in 420 B.C. from advancing further to Naples. <\/span><\/p>

A few sections of the ancient walls survived until the 16th century A.D., <\/strong>when the Spanish were in Sorrento. <\/span><\/p>

The Spanish rebuilt the Ancient walls to be what we know today<\/strong>, and they were used to repel the Saracen invasion<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

On November 7th, 2024, Mayor Massimo Coppola inaugurated the patrol walkway between the Bastione Parsano and the Bastione St. Valerio<\/strong>, opening this area to the public. <\/span><\/p>

Admission to the Bastione Parsano is free<\/strong> within hours of operation of <\/span>10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

This recovery and restoration<\/strong> of the patrol walkway was funded<\/span> by the<\/b> Italian larger<\/span> program called \u201cFund for Culture<\/i>\u201d<\/b> (by the Cultur Ministry)\u00a0<\/span>and the Municipality of Sorrento<\/b>. <\/span><\/p>

Their goal is <\/span>to preserve the historical and archeological heritage<\/b> of Sorrento!<\/span><\/p>

Walking among the ancient defense walls<\/b> is a luxury to have in Sorrento as it <\/span>gives a glimpse into the past<\/b>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>
