Bagni della Regina Giovanna is named for stories. These stories tell that in the fourteenth century, this retreat was favored by <\/span>Queen Giovanna d\u2019Angi\u00f2<\/b><\/a>\u2014the then ruler of Naples.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

Known for her charm and vivaciousness, Queen Giovanna is rumored to have visited <\/span>that place<\/b> with her lovers.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

Whether or not this folktale is true, the hushed romance and serene calm that ooze out the <\/span>Bagni della Regina Giovanna\u2019s<\/b> Roman architecture make it feel almost too beautiful to be real.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

The Kayak Tour at Bagni Regina Giovanna<\/span><\/h3>\n

As the sun started to set, two local guides led us from the shores of <\/span>Marina Grande<\/b> on a kayak ride toward Bagni della Regina Giovanna. We rowed around both moored boats and swimmers who lazed in the clean, clear sea.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

It felt a little odd to steer a kayak over the waves, but I loved how <\/span>the waves rocked <\/b>me forward and around the ocean. The view from my kayak was unbelievable\u2014all colors seemed so <\/span>much more vivid <\/b>than I\u2019d ever seen them before.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

Villa di Pollio Felice<\/span><\/h3>\n

After we arrived at the Bagni della Regina Giovanna, I left the main area to look around at the remnants of a villa from Ancient Rome known as <\/span>Villa di Pollio Felice<\/b><\/a> (or the Villa of Pollio Felice).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

Dated to 1st century BC, these ruins are full of <\/span>mosaics,<\/b> columns<\/b>, and surrounded on all sides with <\/span>wildlife. <\/b>Believed to have once been the villa of the Roman Pollio family, the location of Villa di Pollio Felice is a wonderful place to sit down, take in the views, or even stop for a picnic.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

For me, the existence itself of such an old, well-maintained ruin makes me think about how long what we built exists for after we, ourselves, aren\u2019t here. <\/span>Those who built Villa di Pollio Felice would have never imagined I, so much time later, and so far away, could ever see it<\/b>\u2014but I did, and I\u2019m<\/span> so thankful <\/b>I had the chance.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t
