Anna Maione<\/strong> doesn\u2019t frequently travel outside of Sorrento, but every morning when she takes a short walk to work at Nonna Flora Cooking School in Sorrento<\/strong>, she knows she\u2019ll be seeing the world through the culture and stories of her students\u2014all over handmade pasta, tiramisu, pizza and other traditional Italian recipes.<\/p>\n\n

\u201cI can say that I travel making this job because I can know different cultures, different stories,<\/em>\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Nonna Flora Cooking School isn\u2019t just about food\u2014it\u2019s also about family\n<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

Nonna Flora Cooking School<\/strong>, which Maione owns, is named after her grandmother, Flora. She passed her culinary talent and appreciation to Maione\u2019s mother who then taught Maione herself. Her passion for cooking, then, has always been a family thing.<\/span><\/p>\n

In school, Maione studied food and wine communication at a university, and as she worked for food companies and restaurants, her dream of one day opening a cooking school formed. Her father designed and built the building; her mother passed down recipes from Maione\u2019s grandmother Flora; her husband helped too.<\/span><\/p>\n

In 2019, Nonna Flora Cooking School finally opened.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cThis is why it\u2019s a family kitchen,<\/em>\u201d she said.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Nonna Flora over the years<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

Over the years, she has adapted some of her grandmother\u2019s recipes\u2014creating gluten-free versions and studying how to improve and specialize some recipes. <\/span>They all remain inspired by Grandma Flora<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI use to do typical traditional recipes, but, of course, you know, that same recipe always can change a little bit from family to family tradition<\/em>,\u201d Maione said.<\/span><\/p>\n

For example, she has her own family recipe for making <\/span>tiramisu <\/b>that <\/span>differs from the traditional way<\/b>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The ingredients have an origin back home as well. Maione buys most of the ingredients\u2014cheese, vegetables, etcetera\u2014from Sorrento locals. The lemons used in her recipes come directly from her garden.<\/span><\/p>\n

She is also always implementing changes and adding to the business, constantly seeking improvements.<\/span><\/p>\n

The ultimate goal is to bring the authentic, <\/span>Nonna Flora way of cooking<\/b>, which Maione said isn\u2019t just about the recipes but also about the welcoming atmosphere and hospitality.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI hope that they feel like they are cooking with a friend,\u201d Maione said. \u201cI don\u2019t like the idea of the school, the teacher. I like the idea that people here feel like you are in your friend\u2019s house, in my house and your friend and your family\u2014we are cooking together<\/em>.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/span>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
