For my Pov Sorrento: Festa di San Michele, or the Feast of San Michele, is a festival in Piano di Sorrento’s Piazza Cota every year. The festival took place from September 28 to 30. On the 30th, there was a music festival called Baciati Dal Sud, translated to Kissed by the South. The music festival brought the locals together through popular music and love for their community.d

From kids to parents to grandparents, everyone was singing. The DJ and “hypeman” led the crowd in singing and dancing, instructing them to wave their hands or by turning down the music to hear everyone’s voice. There was fire, sparks, lights, and most importantly, glow sticks! There was a constant flow of glow sticks being thrown into the crowd. Kids and adults went to pick them up to use as a fashion statement. Also thrown to the crowd were balloons, beach tubes, and confetti shot out of cannons.

Festa di San Michele: Show and Riders

Before the Music festival started, there were two acts: a dance group and a magician. They got the party started and invited guests to come closer. The dancers took to the stage in flashy costumes and performed to a track of different Lady Gaga songs. The  magician, on the contrary, wore a suit and performed many tricks to famous American-Italian songs.

In a nearby piazza were rides. Many of the local children made this piazza home this weekend. There were bumper cars, a flying chair ride, and a small merry-go-round for little kids. Loud music from all the rides blended together to make one fun experience. Between the two piazzas, numerous tents sold a wide range of items, from pots and pans to candy to nuts. Overall, the festival was such a joyful place to spend a Tuesday night, and I would go back next year if I could.
