Italy is an incredible place to visit with breathtaking views and delicious food.

Few places in the world rival it as a destination. But where to stay in Italy is a difficult choice!

The allure of Rome with its ancient monuments like the Vatican City, the Pantheon, and the Colosseum is hard to ignore.

However, people who do not like the hustle and bustle of a capital city might enjoy a quiet, romantic coastal town brimming with experiences.

But located in Southern Italy, with convenient travel by rail, road, sea, and sky, there is no better for an Italian adventure than Sorrento!

Sorrento is a beautiful change of pace for any visitor.

After being in the noise of America for most of my life, I cannot overstate how healing it is to be somewhere quieter.

Somewhere that pulls everyone back into the beauty of life.

There are no 10-lane highways, no giant copy-pasted mega stores and drive-throughs.

Every curving street, eroded corner, twisting alley, and beautiful brick is its own. Each of these has its story to tell if one listens and looks closely.

Yet I have never lacked anything while living among these lovely places and people.

The amenities are everything from delicious eateries to grocery stores that are a quick Google search and a stroll away.

Using the legendary European public transport system is easy along with these amenities.

People can hop from one place to the next, seeing beautiful sights and meeting more people.

Getting on a bus or train and going to Naples, Amalfi, Pompei, Vesuvius, Rome, and other cities in Italy is easy.

Additionally, using this system to take day trips to some of Italy’s most beautiful and historic places is a must.

The furthest of these famous destinations is 30 miles (48km) away and is well connected.

Visiting it and coming back to the warm embrace of Sorrento is a day well spent.

Even Rome itself is within range of a day trip from Sorrento.

But to appreciate all Rome offers, a weekend trip is the perfect time to see the sights without overwhelming crowds.

A perfect home base

However, Sorrento is more than an ideal home base while traveling.

Many lesser-known historical places populate the small town.

One place hides amongst the buildings and roads.

It is past a busy cobblestone street where most people do not go. Down this street and after visitors pass the last building on the block, there is a metal gate. This gate marks the entrance to the Parsano Bastion.

This bastion is part of an old wall defense that surrounded Sorrento.

But it is not the only historical building here. Beautiful churches also pepper the town with gorgeous glass-stained windows and paintings.

But the air to them is still and peaceful.

These churches such as the Cathedral of Saints Philip and James, the Church of Santi Felice and Baccolo, and more are tranquil places.

These places in Sorrento are a simple walk away.

But everything is not close together in some parts of Italy.

Some people take public transport to work, school, or other places. This includes traveling to remote sights like Castello di Lettere, Ercolano, or Herculaneum.

As previously stated, these are only a few remote places in Italy, but visitors see them regularly.

However, these places are only an hour or two away from Sorrento and easy to go. It makes a perfect day trip to add to an itinerary.

The previously mentioned attributes make Sorrento a gorgeous destination with a little more travel added to it.

It also helps travelers to know they have a comfortable and warm bed to return to at the end of a long day of exploring!

Ciao!
