The Birth of the SyArt Sorrento Festival

SyArt Sorrento Festival is the fruit of Leone Cappiello’s passion for contemporary art.

This collector decided to realize his vision, channeling personal contacts and his innate passion for beauty, giving life to a festival that would promote and disseminate contemporary art.

The festival was initially hosted at the SyArt Gallery, previously known as Onda Gallery, where Leone Cappiello experienced the first steps of artistic dissemination.

For some years, however, the Festival has been hosted in Villa Fiorentino.

The Outdoor Museum: An Open-Air Artistic Experience

The Outdoor Museum of Sorrento represents an innovative museum concept which hosts contemporary works of art in an open space accessible to all.

Also conceived as an “open-air museum” the project is inspired by the pioneering of Scandinavia, which spread the concept of open-air museums to the rest of the world.

Sorrento, with its open air museum, embraces this artistic vision and offers an experience that can be enjoyed on foot, immersed in the beauty of the Sorrento landscape.

The selection of works

One of the most significant challenges for the Sorrento Outdoor Museum was the selection of works to exhibit.

Over the years, the festival has welcomed hundreds of artists of different nationalities, each with their own research path and artistic language.

The choice of works on display was carefully considered, focusing on the quality, innovation and cultural value of each work.

This process aims to make the museum a tool at the service of the community, a significant testimony of our continually evolving time.

An engaging artistic journey

The Outdoor Museum itinerary begins at the entrance of the Villa Comunale with the work “Sorrento loves Art” by Tvboy.

This place was specifically chosen for its strategic position in the heart of Sorrento’s daily flows.

Continuing along Via San Francesco towards Piazza Sant’Antonino, visitors will be able to admire “Ivy-Edera” by Dalya Luttwak, a work that raises the gaze to the sky.

This work is located a few meters from the SyArt headquarters, which permanently exhibits works by national and international artists.

Essenza” by Carmen Novaco stands out in Piazza Sant’Antonino.

Via Marina Grande shows “Parthenope“, the public artwork of the famous street artist OZMO.

The beautiful Mermaid, symbol of the timeless beauty of this land, has a dual meaning: protector of Sorrento as well as symbol of the resilience of the city itself, which has been able to transform itself without losing its identity.

On the Corso Italia (civico 141), a few steps from Piazza Tasso, between the Tabacchi and the “Unica concept store,” is the work “Mikado” by Vincenzo Mascia.

This closeness of the works allows them to be enjoyed on foot, allowing visitors to completely immerse themselves in the contemporary art on display.

The Sorrento Outdoor Museum, therefore, has become a point of reference for international contemporary art.

This precious initiative offers visitors a unique experience, allowing them to approach art in a natural and enchanting context.

The careful selection of the works on display testifies to the museum’s continuous commitment to promoting and preserving contemporary art as a collective cultural heritage.
